Self-Confidence

‎⁦‪The Stronger Muslim‬⁩ has self-confidence due to what Allah has given them of knowledge, ability, or something similar.

‎This was clear from the lives of the Sahaabah, the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , whom we have to follow, may Allah be pleased with all of them!

‎==========

‎For example, in Sahih AlBukhari, soon after AbdurRahman Ibn Auf made hijrah to AlMedina with almost nothing, his brother in Islam Sa’d Ibn ArRabee’ AlAnsaari tried to give him HALF of his own wealth to help and support him to get back on his feet!

‎But AbdurRahman completely refused that generous offer.

‎Instead of accepting that generous help from his brother that Allah was making easy for him, he replied to him:

‎“Dullani alaa assooq” (Point me in the direction of the marketplace).

‎And this powerful confidence in himself was by Allah and through what Allah had given him of knowledge, capability, and skill in business, and he was from the Ten Who Were Promised Jannah, may Allah be pleased with all of them.

‎==========

‎Sheikh Al-Uthaymeen was asked:

‎What is the ruling on saying "So-and-so is confident in himself" or "So-and-so has confidence in himself"? Does this contradict the duaa: ((Do not leave me to myself, even for the blink of an eye))?

‎The Shaykh answered:

‎“If he says "I am confident in such-and-such," or "I am confident in myself," or "So-and-so is confident in himself," or "He’s confident in what he says," what is meant is that he is certain of this, and there is no harm in that.

‎This does not contradict the well-known duaa ((Do not leave me to myself for the blink of an eye)) because a person’s confidence in himself is by Allah and through what Allah has given him of knowledge, ability, or something similar.”

‎•"Fatawa Islaamiyyah" (4/480)

‎==========

‎So there is no contradiction between the believer having complete reliance upon Allah and being self-confident.

‎Rather, the believer’s being self-confident, like how AbdurRahman Ibn Auf was, is from showing thanks to Allah in what He has blessed you with from knowledge, skills, and abilities. And Allah knows best.
